Fruit in Schools
I like having Fruit in Schools because the fruit is yummy and free. The fruit helps you every day. The best thing is that the fruit is not vegetables. They buy good brands, and the fruit is good for you. The fruit is very fresh and very healthy.

I like fruit because it keeps you healthy and is yummy and it's free because the government pays for it. We have fruit like oranges and apples, pineapple. If I haven't tasted it I will still try it.

I really enjoy the fruit. Ella and I like our oranges whole. The apples are crunchy to me. I think it is good to have fruit in schools because it keeps your body healthy. I eat my fruit, even if I do not like it. I will always eat it. Having the fruit is a great opportunity because it makes you stronger at everything you do. I think we should thank the government for everything they do.

This week you can do your spelling homework online!
Send your spelling homework activities as a comment to this post. Make sure you don't have any spelling mistakes in it, though! Include the title of your activity.
Word shape - this one is probably hard to do on the computer. You could do Same beginning letters/sounds instead.
Who will be the first person to post one of their spelling activities?

Nanaimo is the "Bathtub Racing" Capital of the WORLD.
From Ami
Did you even know that there is such a thing as Bathtub Racing? Are they racing down a river in a bathtub? Or do the tubs have wheels? Could anyone find out more about this?
Well done, Ami, for finding out this vital piece of information!

Blog Homework challenge
Room 2 was very excited to see that we had some visitors to our blog from overseas. If you look in the Feedjit window next to our posts, you can see that we had visitors from all over New Zealand, and from the following places:
- Zurich/Switzerland
- Oklahoma/USA
- Nanaimo/British Columbia/Canada
Your challenge is to find out more about any of those places and post your findings as a comment to this post. It could be anything like where this place is, how many people live there, and anything else.
Let's see who is going to be the first to add a comment. If you don't have internet access at home, you can use the classroom computer to do this before school.

Centurion of the Week 1
This week's Centurion of the Week certificate goes to Hamish for displaying the virtues of respect and perseverance. Hamish shows respect for people around our school by treating them nicely and showing consideration.
Perseverance means that you try hard at achieving or completing something even though it might be really difficult. It means that you don't give up, but you keep working or trying hard. Hamish has displayed this virtue many times in the classroom. He does not shy away from trying hard and not giving up.

Welcome to Term 4!
Hopefully, everyone has had a nice and relaxing holiday, and is ready for the last term of this year. Please read our latest Room 2 Newsletter which will also go home as a hard copy:
13 October 2008
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
I hope you had a nice holiday with your child/children, and that they (and you) are ready for a new term.
This term is going to be just as busy as last term with lots of exciting things happening.
Celebration of Learning
Thank you to those parents and relatives who were able to come to our celebration of learning last term. It was great to have so many of you there. The children really enjoyed sharing their work with you. I look forward to the next celebration of learning at the end of this term.
Ulearn 08
I spent three days at Ulearn 08 in Christchurch together with my fellow teachers from Centennial School. This was a conference for teachers and schools who are part of the ICT professional development. It was a wonderful experience to learn and share along 1700 other teachers from all over New Zealand. My focus for this conference was to learn more about blogging and wikispaces. I learnt lots of new things which I want to try with our classroom blog. Please visit http://room2centennialschool.blogspot.com regularly to find out about Room 2’s learning. It would be great if you could pass on our blog address to any family members or friends around New Zealand and the world.
Children’s photos on blogs
From time to time, photos of the children will be published on our classroom blog. Please note that their last name will never be published, only their first name.
If you do not wish your child’s photo to be published on our blog, please fill in the opt-out slip below. If I do not receive a slip back, I assume that you are happy to have your child’s photo published. Please feel free to contact me if you have any queries regarding this.
Homework
This term, our homework routines will be a bit different. The children are still expected to read every night and to fill in their reading log. They are also required to complete a variety of spelling activities during the week. Reading logs will be checked daily, but spelling homework will only be handed in and checked on Friday morning. Please look out for the new homework sheet in your child’s homework book.
Stationery
If your child brings home a stationery list with item that he/she needs, could you please make sure they bring the money in a named envelope to me (not the office), or buy the items somewhere else. This is to ensure that they have all the material they need for this term. Thank you.

China Inquiry
Room 2 has continued with their China Inquiry this week. Each one of us chose an area of interest for our inquiry. The topics we have chosen are Olympics, The Great Wall of China, Daily Life in China, Swords and Police in China. We are learning how to use the Internet to search for information and to decide whether the information we have found is appropriate for us. We keep asking ourselves if we understand what we are reading.
When we find a website we can do the 5 finger test - if there are more than 5 words in the first paragraph that we don't understand, it is probably too hard for us to understand. Next week we will be learning how to take notes from a website or a book.

Who am I?
Hello everyone,
today during reading time we made up "Who am I?" quizzes about well-known fairytale characters. We had to give three clues, the first one had to be very general. The second one could be more detailed but should still not give away too much information. The third clue would then be very specific.
Can you guess who this one is about?
I live in a forest.
I have to stay in bed because I am sick.
I get eaten by a wolf.

What about this one:
You can eat me.
I have buttons on my tummy.
Ginger is part of my ingredients.
Can you post a harder one for us to figure out?

Room 2 is ready to blog!
Kia ora,
this is Room 2's classroom blog. It is very exciting to learn about blogging, and I am sure that the children will have lots of fun doing it.
Have fun reading our blogs and feel free to add your comments.
