Centurion of the Week 1

This week's Centurion of the Week certificate goes to Hamish for displaying the virtues of respect and perseverance. Hamish shows respect for people around our school by treating them nicely and showing consideration.
Perseverance means that you try hard at achieving or completing something even though it might be really difficult. It means that you don't give up, but you keep working or trying hard. Hamish has displayed this virtue many times in the classroom. He does not shy away from trying hard and not giving up.

Classroom Certificates Week 1

This week's certificates went to

  • Cruise - Welcome to Room 2! It is great to see how well you have fitted into our class. We hope you enjoy being a member of our class.
  • Jordan M. - Effort in Reading. You impressed us this week with your contributions during our guided reading programme. You really think about what you are reading, and you are willing to offer your thoughts and ideas.

Welcome to Term 4!

Hopefully, everyone has had a nice and relaxing holiday, and is ready for the last term of this year. Please read our latest Room 2 Newsletter which will also go home as a hard copy:

13 October 2008
Dear Parents and Caregivers,

I hope you had a nice holiday with your child/children, and that they (and you) are ready for a new term.
This term is going to be just as busy as last term with lots of exciting things happening.

Celebration of Learning
Thank you to those parents and relatives who were able to come to our celebration of learning last term. It was great to have so many of you there. The children really enjoyed sharing their work with you. I look forward to the next celebration of learning at the end of this term.

Ulearn 08
I spent three days at Ulearn 08 in Christchurch together with my fellow teachers from Centennial School. This was a conference for teachers and schools who are part of the ICT professional development. It was a wonderful experience to learn and share along 1700 other teachers from all over New Zealand. My focus for this conference was to learn more about blogging and wikispaces. I learnt lots of new things which I want to try with our classroom blog. Please visit
http://room2centennialschool.blogspot.com regularly to find out about Room 2’s learning. It would be great if you could pass on our blog address to any family members or friends around New Zealand and the world.

Children’s photos on blogs
From time to time, photos of the children will be published on our classroom blog. Please note that their last name will never be published, only their first name.
If you do not wish your child’s photo to be published on our blog, please fill in the opt-out slip below. If I do not receive a slip back, I assume that you are happy to have your child’s photo published. Please feel free to contact me if you have any queries regarding this.

Homework
This term, our homework routines will be a bit different. The children are still expected to read every night and to fill in their reading log. They are also required to complete a variety of spelling activities during the week. Reading logs will be checked daily, but spelling homework will only be handed in and checked on Friday morning. Please look out for the new homework sheet in your child’s homework book.

Stationery
If your child brings home a stationery list with item that he/she needs, could you please make sure they bring the money in a named envelope to me (not the office), or buy the items somewhere else. This is to ensure that they have all the material they need for this term. Thank you.

Ulearn 08 Christchurch

At the moment, I am attending the Ulearn 08 conference in Christchurch with the other staff from Centennial School. It is a wonderful experience to learn and share along 1700 other teachers from throughout the country. I have learnt lots about blogging, podcasting, voicethreads, and all sorts of other exciting things.
Check out ulearn.org.nz if you are interested in finding out more about this conference.

Celebration of Learning 2

It was wonderful to have a good number of parents, grandparents and caregivers at our celebration of learning on the last day of school. It was great to see lots of children who were keen to share their learning with the audience. Thank you very much.
If you are one of the children who were too shy to share, there will be another celebration next term.
In the meantime, enjoy the rest of your holidays!

Abigail

It is not going well because I haven't been here much. I will try to always be here and when I'm away I should read books about the topic.

Isaac

My inquiry learning is going well because I like doing the work. I need to work on using the Internet.

Tayla

Learning about Chinese language and people is going well. I am finding more information about China. I need to work on how to get my stuff about Chinese language and people to save on my file.

Jessie-May

My inquiry is going well because I have got some information. I need to work on how to use the Computer properly because there is a lot on the Olympics.
